The great period doorway of the three-star Hotel Donatello opens out onto the large garden of Piazza Indipendenza. The antique 19th-century building, former residence of an eminent and wealthy Florentine family, has been renovated in stone, faceted colored marbles, traditional terra cotta tiles and Murano glass, lending the elegant structure a refined air and attesting to the great history of Florence, cradle of the Renaissance. The ample internal garden courtyard and the rooms which overlook the majestic trees of the square guarantee our guests a pleasant and peaceful stay. Thanks to our central position, all of the principal monuments of the city are easily reachable on foot: Piazza San Marco, the Accademia delle Belle Arti, the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, the Uffizi Gallery and the Ponte Vecchio. We are also just a stroll away from the convention hall at the Fortezza da Basso and just 60 meters from the Santa Maria Novella train station. Close to the picturesque San Lorenzo and Central Markets can also be found.

Travel information

From the Santa Maria Novella train station: after getting off of the train take a left, exit the station and cross the street. Make a right, then turn left in Via Nazionale. Continuing straight ahead you will see, to your left, a large tree-lined square. You are in Piazza Indipendenza. Crossing the square you will arrive at the Hotel Donatello, parallel to Via Nazionale, at street number 23.

From the Airport: The Florence Airport (Amerigo Vespucci) is 5 km away from the center of the city. You can easily reach us in a taxi or with any of the bus lines that arrive at the Santa Maria Novella central train station.

By car

• From the “Firenze-Sud” (Florence-South) exit off the A1 expressway: follow the directions for “Viali di Circonvallazione” (Ring Roads). Once you’ve arrived in Piazza della Libertà, take Via Lorenzo il Magnifico, take the second left, then continue straight ahead until you arrive in Via Santa Caterina d’Alessandria. To your right you will see a tree-lined square, Piazza Indipendenza. To reach the front of the hotel, take the first right and then turn right again. We are located at street number 23.
• From the “Firenze-Nord” (Florence-North) exit off the A1 expressway: follow the directions for “Viali di Circonvallazione” (Ring Roads). After passing Viale Strozzi and the Fortezza da Basso, you will find yourself in Viale Spartaco Lavagnini; turn right at the first traffic light in Via Santa Caterina d’Alessandria. To your right you will see a tree-lined square, Piazza Indipendenza. To reach the front of the hotel, take the first right and then turn right again. We are located at street number 23.
