Behind the bay of Fetovaia there are narrow valleys, which look
wild and not very accessible. The vegetation is low and sparse,
due to the scarce water and to the exposure to the south-west salty
wind called ‘Libeccio’. The landscape reminds of more
southerly latitudes, and is a lot different from the one of the
northern part of the same mountain, characterized by shadowy and
imposing chestnut trees. This different morphology is due to the
presence of the mount ‘Monte Capanne’, which stops the
northern rain that falls instead on the northern slopes. Fetovaia’s
beach, the most beautiful on this side of the island, is protected
by a narrow tongue of land that stretches in the sea, green of brooms,
ilex, and high bushes.
