Welcome to Hotel “La Vecchia Palma”! Situated in the historical centre of Catania, in the well-known street "Via Etnea" next to the underground and to the bus stop, the Hotel is housed in a nineteenth-century villa, enriched by original frescoes and putties present in the classic sicilian baroque style. The numerous pieces of antique dealing in the furnishing, increase the intimate and refined values of a private noble villa that has preserved the fascination of the past. The hotel “La Vecchia Palma” has been selected from the Italian "Touring Club", that, for the fifth year consecutive has been certified as best "Italian Rooms" and moreover it has been recommended from prestigious guides like "Michelin" and "La Guide du Routard" where this has been marked from guesses enthusiastic of the values of the structure.

Room information

The Hotel has twelve rooms, each one furnished differently and with an interior decoration wisely and carefully achieved. Each room is equipped with every modern comfort.

Food & Beverage

In the morning a buffet breakfast is served with the typical italian espresso coffee. It is served from the 07,30 to 09,30. Moreover, upon request, it is possible to have the room breakfast's service. The Hotel has also an American Bar.

In order to see the typical Catania Baroque, other points that we advise to you, in addition to have a walk along Via Etnea with palaces and churches of the'700, are: the Palace of the University and the Palace of Sangiuliano (turning on the left, we advise to visit Via Crociferi), Palazzo Asmundo Francia - Nava and the Massimo Bellini's Theatre.

To visit, is the Public square of the Dome (Piazza Duomo), within the centre of the square there is the characteristic Fountain of the elephant "U Liotru" for the citizens it is the symbol of the city, statue surmounted from an Egyptian obelisk which originates, for some Roman, for others representing the Byzantine, but the legend tells, the pachyderm that saved the city from lava of the mount Etna in the remotest times.

The Dome represents the devotion of the citizens to Agate, the Patron Saint celebrated from the 3rd to 5th February. And it is possible to see, also, a side of the Abbey of Saint' Agate that gives on Via Vittorio Emanuele II, where moreover you'll find the huge Roman Theatre.

From Piazza Duomo you can continue to Fontana of the Amenano where begin the Fish market.

Travel information

The Hotel is easily reacheable from the railway station: from the railway station (Stazione Centrale di Catania) in Piazza Papa Giovanni XXIII (at 2/3 km away from the Hotel La Vecchia Palma), you can take any of the numerous buses (n° 429, 432, 449, 1-4) that reach Via Etnea, 668 (the stop is just in front of the hotel). Elsewhere, you can take the underground inside the railway station. Take to the direction and stop of BORGO, the station is located at a few steps from the Hotel.

The Hotel is easily reacheable from the airport: from the airport Fontanarossa, (at 7/8 km away from Hotel La Vecchia Palma) , take the bus called Alibus (bus n. 457) for Catania's centre, then stop at the railway station. From the railway station, please read above for details.
