Siena Hotels
Take advantage of our offers on hotels in Siena and surroundings: built on three steep hills, Siena is a town of historical importance for its medieval art, heritage of its wealth during the Middle Ages when it was an independent state until its final defeat by Florence. Siena’s neighbourhoods (contrade) still witness Sienese people attachment to the Medieval traditions, with particular reference to the Palio horse race, run in Piazza del Campo (on July 2 and August 16), which is the most dramatic representation of the unbroken neighbourhood pride and rivalry among the town neighbourhoods. The Palio is taken very seriously and cannot be considered just an attraction for tourists, the event involves a year of preparation and a month of festivities. The historical centre of Siena is accessible only on foot, but parking is not a big problem anyway thanks to the various parking areas available outside the city walls.
