The country house “Rodrigo de Vivar – Resorts & Country” is situated in an authentic medieval village in the Roman country, in the wide property of the Princes Aldobrandini, descendents of Pope Clemente II. Our hotel serves as an ideal starting point for our guests: We are just 25 minutes away from the centre of Rome, only 15 minutes away from the Nuova Fiera di Roma, mere 10 minutes away from the international Rome Fiumicino airport, mere 5 minutes away from the beach and 2 walking minutes away from the famous excavations of Ostia Antica.

Due to this unique combination of factors, our family-run hotel allows you to travel into the past while at the same time staying well connected with the present.

During your stay with us you can enjoy the stately elegance of these rooms that in the past were inhabited by such famous personalities as King Charles III of Borbone, Baldassarre Peruzzi, Pablo Picasso and Chagall.

The nine spacious rooms in the medieval village are highly comfortable and characterized by an unmistakable style: antique and refined furniture, fine chandeliers from Murano and original Persian carpets.

Our six spacious apartments and rooms in the country are kept in a more rustic style in harmony with the spirit of the location.

Each room is equipped with television, video-recorder, hairdryer, minibar and everything you need to prepare tea or coffee.

CHAGALL - THE DELUXE SUITE: Our superb suite was named after the famous Belarusian-born French painter Marc Chagall. Around 1930 Chagall lived in Italy and during the years he spent in this country the peacefulness and quiet in the medieval village of Ostia Antica inspired many of his works. He stayed in the suite for about a month. The Suite is composed of 1 matrimonial bedroom; 1 bathroom with bathtub and hairdryer; 1 parlour with fireplace; 1 small parlour offering a beautiful view of the castle and Sant'Aurea Church; 2 chair-beds.

POMPEIANA & BORBONE - THE DELUXE DOUBLE ROOMS

• Pompeiana is composed of 1 matrimonial bedroom, 1 twin bedroom, 1 small parlour, 1 bathroom with bathtub and hairdryer.
• Borbone is composed of 1 matrimonial bedroom with four-poster bed, 1 single bedroom, 1 bathroom with bathtub and hairdryer.

DELFINA - THE SUPERIOR DOUBLE ROOM: the apartment received its name from the marchioness Delfina Rappini who occupied the rooms at the entrance to the medieval village until 2005. Delfina is composed of 1 matrimonial bedroom, 1 single bedroom, 1 bathroom with bathtub and hairdryer, 1 parlour with fireplace.

EDUARDO DESTRA & SINISTRA - THE STANDARD PLUS DOUBLE ROOMS: These rooms were named after the famous Italian actor, playwright, screenwriter, author and poet Eduardo De Filippo, who stayed in these apartments during his performances at the theatre of Ostia Antica. The Standard Plus Apartments are composed of 1 matrimonial bedroom, 1 private bathroom, 1 shared parlour with fireplace.

TORRE DEL CASTELLO & FRANCESCA - THE STANDARD DOUBLE ROOMS:

• Torre del Castello I: This room was named Torre del Castello (Castle tower) due to the fact that it offers a marvellous view of the tower of the medieval castle that once belonged to Pope Julius II. Torre del Castello I is composed of 1 matrimonial bedroom, 1 small parlour with couch, 1 fully equipped kitchen, 1 bathroom with bathtub and hairdryer

• Torre del Castello II: This room is located right next to the tower of the medieval castle that once belonged to Pope Julius II and was therefore named Torre del Castello (Castle tower). It offers a gorgeous view of the medieval village. Torre del Castello II is composed of 1 matrimonial bedroom, 1 single bedroom, 1 fully equipped kitchen, 1 bathroom with bathtub and hairdryer.

• Francesca is home to many dear personal memories of the family who runs Rodrigo de Vivar. Francesca is composed of 1 matrimonial bedroom, 1 small parlour with antique table, 1 bathroom with bathtub and hairdryer.

Travel information

FROM FIUMICINO AIRPORT: When you arrive in Fiumicino airport, from the arrival terminals follow the signs for “Ostia Lido”. Cross a bridge and drive straight on for about three kilometres. You will find a junction: on the right there is Ostia Lido, on the left there are the signs to Rome and Ostia Antica. So drive along the left lane following the indications for Roma-Ostia Antica. Always keep to the left and after 1 km (before a traffic light) you find the brown sign “Scavi di Ostia Antica”. Here turn again to the left and then change immediately to the right lane, taking the first street on the right after about 200 meters. You have to go on straight for about 450 meters until (after a little bend and always to your right) you see an ancient arch. That is the entrance of the Medieval Village, which is a pedestrian area. You will find our reception to the left of the arch, outside the medieval village. If you have a lot of luggage you can enter the medieval village by car to unload your luggage directly in front of your room and then afterwards park your car at our private parking lot.

FROM “TERMINI” CENTRAL STATION: Take the line B (the blue line) direction "Laurentina", and get off at "Piramide" station (the 4th stop after Termini). At "Piramide" you have to follow the directions to take the train leaving for "Lido di Ostia". This little train leaves every 10-15 minutes. You have to get off at Ostia Antica (the 7th stop after Piramide). After leaving the station, you will find a pedestrian bridge to the right in front of you. Cross the bridge and follow the little street “Via della Stazione di Ostia Antica” to its end, where will see the restaurant "Lo Sbarco di Enea", and turn to the right towards the castle. Go straight ahead for another 200 meters until you can see an ancient arch on your right-hand side. You will find our reception to the left of this entrance to the Medieval Village.

FROM ROME ON THE HIGHWAY “G.R.A.-GRANDE RACCORDO ANULARE”: Take the exit 28 for “Ostia Lido-Acilia-Ostia Antica”. Follow the indication for “Via del Mare” for Ostia Lido-Acilia-Ostia Antica. You have to take the “Via del Mare” and go straight ahead for about 10 km until you encounter a big traffic light (the traffic light of Ostia Antica). Here turn to the right, into a little and short street called Via di Gente Salinatoria. After 100 meters, at the end of this little street, turn to the left into Via dei Romagnoli. Follow the street for about 200 meters until you see an ancient arch on your left-hand side. That is the entrance of the Medieval Village, which is a pedestrian area. You will find our reception to the left of the arch, outside the medieval village. If you have a lot of luggage you can enter the medieval village by car to unload your luggage directly in front of your room and then afterwards park your car at our private parking lot.
