
Testaccio was established in 1921 from the near Rione Ripa. The name refers to the Mons Testaceus, a hill that was formed with the accumulation of scraps and shards of amphorae. The amphora is in fact the symbol of this District. The Testaccio, closed between Via Marmorata, the Aurelian Walls and the Tiber, is a central meeting place for young people and tourists. The Testaccio, along with Trastevere, is one of the neighborhoods of Roman nightlife, full of clubs, bars, and cultural spaces. The Testaccio neighborhood is the symbol of the supporters of the football team of Rome.
